Nathaniel Okine is a student of Ebenezer Senior High School and pursues boxing as an after school interest.

He is the biological son of Ghanaian professional boxer Patrick Okine aka Yaw Mallet. Nathaniel Okine is working hard to achieve his own glory in Boxing. His future ambition is to take the boxing world by storm, to achieve glories beyond what his father reached.

Nathaniel Okine began learning boxing when he was 15 years old, and he represented Wisdom Boxing Club at the 2022 National Individual Championship.

Speaking on his performance in the tournament, Nathaniel explains:

“I have mixed feelings about my performance. I was happy about aspects of my performance but I am disappointed I lost. After the fight I had a chance to watch the video and I saw the errors that I made. I am sorry and in the future I will work harder to impress my coaches and fans.”

He participated in the national individual championship going up against Samuel Yaw Addo in the bantamweight category. He was eliminated in the round of 16. Nathaniel put up a very dominant performance before he was cut short by the experienced boxer Yaw Addo who’s from the Attoh Quarshie Boxing Club.

Coach Ofori Asare, Head Coach of Wisdom Boxing Club consoled Nathaniel and encouraged him

“I put you in this fight knowing your winning chances were lean but I was looking for performance. I am happy with the results because you performed well. We will work on the errors but be proud of yourself because this is your only second bout.”

Nathaniel mentioned that

“I am happy to share my story with everyone, participating in the National Individual Championship was tough. I appreciate my performance but I was not happy with the final results. Although I went into the fight as an underdog against a highly experienced boxer, I was aiming at causing an upset.”

Nathaniel is aiming for a big future in the sport. He hopes to impress the world by working hard.

Nathaniel has not had very easy path in the sport, although he comes from a boxing family, he faced opposition from his father causing him to stay home for 2 years.

Combining education and boxing is not easy as well as apportioning his time well in order to effectively be his best at both school and the gym.

After the tournament, Nathaniel has resumed training and is looking forward to making the Greater Accra Team.
