Ghana’s Black Bombers have returned home after securing an 11th place finish.

Accra, Ghana – The Black Bombers have returned home, sparking excitement across the nation after an impressive showing at the recently concluded 2026 IBA Africa Elite Men’s & Women’s Boxing Championships in Kinshasa, DR Congo.

The team clinched two medals in the competition, with Mohammed Amadu earning a silver medal in the Men’s Featherweight-57kg category and Joseph Commey securing a bronze medal in the Men’s Light Welterweight-63.5kg event. Although Ebenezer Ankrah was eliminated at the quarterfinal stage in the Lightweight-60kg division, the team’s overall performance was commendable.

Leading the team was Charles Quartey, who guided the boxers through their grueling matches. At the Accra International Airport, officials from the Ghana Boxing Federation, including President Alhaji Dauda Fuseini, were on hand to welcome the champions back to their homeland. Fuseini praised the athletes for their remarkable achievements and expressed frustration over the contentious decisions that deprived the medalists of gold. “You have made Ghana and yourselves proud. Welcome home, champions!” he declared.

Ghana finished 11th amongst 14 teams in the just ended IBA men’s and women’s tournament
