Veteran boxer Obodai ‘The Miracle’ Sai, who previously held Commonwealth and national
super welterweight titles, is eager for a fight.
In a recent interview, he challenged Haruna ‘Thunder’ Mohammed (8-2, 8 KOs), the current
WABU Cruiserweight champion.
At his peak, Sai (38-3-1, 28 KOs) was regarded as one of the country’s premier prospects,
claiming the WBO Africa Middleweight title in 2018 against South Africa’s Frane Ramabolu.
In 2017, he was the 12th ranked fighter in the WBO middleweight division, and he is
presently within the top 10 of the WBA Africa super middleweight rankings.
However, his recent lack of activity has kept him from major competitions lately, having
competed just four times since 2019. His most recent victory was a knockout against Ayittey
Okainjah in 2025.
This time, he has called out a cruiserweight, a weight at which he has not fought before.
Given that he is 39 years old, one can imagine that cutting weight to super middleweight will
be more challenging than in the past.
Obodai Sai will face a tough challenge in Haruna Mohammed, should their fight materialize.
Mohammed is the younger, taller, and rangier fighter and has a 100% knockout ratio in 8
wins.
We will have to wait and see which promoter puts the fight together.
