The Ghana Boxing Authority Expresses Condolences to Boxing South Africa (BSA) And Family of Simiso Buthelezi

The Ghana Boxing Authority has in a press release note signed by its president Mr. Abraham Kotei Neequaye expressed condolences to Boxing South Africa (BSA) for losing its boxer Simiso Buthelezi.

 

The tragic incident was reported today after the KwaZulu-Natal born pugilist suffered a brain injury during a lightweight championship fight (vacant World Boxing Federation African Light Title) with his fellow South African Siphesihle Mntungwa.

Buthelezi who was unbeaten before the bout began to punch the air after he had knockdown his opponent in the final round (10) indicating an imbalance with his brain.

 

He was then reported to be in coma after he was hospitalised. The sad news broke out today breaking the hearts of all that heard the news.

Abraham Kotei Neequaye on behalf of the Authority stated in the release that

“On behalf of the Executive Board Members of Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), the entire members of boxing fraternity and good people of Ghana, I will like to express my deepest sympathy and condolences to you and the board members at Boxing South Africa and the bereaved family of the late boxer, Simiso Buthelezi. ”

 

The GBA President also indicated that, a minute silence will be observed to pay homage to the late Buthelezi

“This coming Saturday June 11, when the De-luxy Professional Boxing league enter week 6 at the Bukom Boxing Arena, the GBA will observe a minute silence to pay special homage to our late boxer, Simiso Buthelezi.”

 

In his final statement according to the letter, Mr. Neequaye commended the acting CEO of Boxing South Africa for his “excellent leadership and also for establishing an independent medical review team to conduct a review of injury suffered by Buthelezi.”
