I have learnt a lot and I will come back better and stronger – Naa Amanuah Ankrah

Female boxer, Leticia Naa Amanuah Ankrah of Akotoku Academy who fought and lost in Serbia recently has apologised to her fans for the only defeat in her career and hopes to come back better.

Speaking on The Big Fight NightShow on Omashi TV last Friday she said the experience was great and wonderful.

“It was my first time on the aeroplane and my first time travelling to Europe, so I am happy and I experienced a lot, I will give thanks to the Almighty and my trainers, we did our best but we can do better” she said.

According to Leticia Naa Amanuah Ankrah who was awarded by the Women In Sports Association (WISA)  she fought Sara Cirkovic, someone who has an amateur record of over 70 bouts and was experienced as well as favoured by the crowd and weather.

Coach Elvis Robertson who accompanied Amanuah said they do not want to give any excuses but it was a good exposure and they learnt a lot.

He noted that lack of many female boxers is a problem as they often travel to Nigeria to fight or bring boxers from there to come and fight in Ghana.

He added that there are not many female boxers in her weight class so she finds it difficult to get training partners and sparring mates.

“However she is a strong character and did four rounds out of the scheduled six rounds and spectators who watched were happy” he expressed.

He revealed that Akotoku Academy is one of the oldest boxing gyms in Ghana who have produced great champions but they lack equipment in the gym, and prayed they would get support.

Leticia Naa Amanuah Ankrah also thanked Solomon Otoo Lartey for his influence and motivation in getting her into boxing.

Some people are teasing her because of the lose but she is not looking back and remains focused on the future.

“I will shine again and shine brighter for them to feel the heat” she said.

Derrick Quaye aka Show Love also fought in Serbia on the same day as Leticia and lost in round four. He has also apologised to his fans and promised to come back better.
