Tim Tszyu Vows to Force Errol Spence Jr. Into Permanent Retirement in Sydney

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA – The psychological warfare has officially reached a boiling point ahead of the highly anticipated July 25 (July 26 local time) super welterweight pay-per-view clash between Tim Tszyu and Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr. at the Afterpay Arena in Sydney.

With less than a month to go before the Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) event streams live on Prime Video, the hometown favorite Tszyu has launched a scathing verbal assault on the former unified welterweight king.

Spence is making his highly anticipated return to the squared circle after a brutal 2023 loss to Terence Crawford, stepping up to the 154-pound limit after a near three-year layoff without a warm-up fight—a move boxing icon Roy Jones Jr. recently termed “highly dangerous” against a puncher of Tszyu’s caliber.

Tszyu (24-1, 17 KOs) believes Spence’s public commentary regarding his trip Down Under reveals a fighter who already has one foot out the door.

”It’s the last hurrah for Errol Spence. Get in and watch his last fight,” Tszyu told the media. “If he’s already talking about holidays and life beyond boxing, then this is his last goodbye. I’m going to make sure of it.”

Spence (28-1, 22 KOs), aiming to silence the critics, has enlisted a secret weapon for his training camp: former world champion Brian Mendoza, who went the full 12 rounds with Tszyu in 2023. While Tszyu’s camp remains entirely business-focused, the stakes could not be higher.

For Spence, a victory in hostile territory instantly re-establishes him as an elite multi-division threat. For Tszyu, it is an opportunity to permanently close the chapter on a modern boxing legend.
