Fight preview and analysis: By Dennis Moore, Snr. Boxing anaylist, Journalist/ Head of Media, Andyglow TV
The battle line has been drawn barring any unforeseen circumstances inside the beautiful city of Argentina’s Capital Buenos Aires specifically at the iconic Casino where Ghana’s Featherweight sensation John Abaja Laryea affectionately called the ” Expensive Boxer” will be tasting the ambience of South America for the first time in his carrier.
The issue is centered on the crucial WBA Featherweight Eliminator title fight at 126 pounds against homeboy Maximiliano Adriana ROBLEDO in the main event with the winner earning a direct shot at contending for the World championship.
John Abaja Laryea, the expensive boxer has worked himself through to this point in his boxing carrier and has drawn the fondness of great boxing managers to his side in the persons of former legendary Black Stars skipper Asamoah Gyan and Sammy Anim Addo ably flanked in coaching credentials by Carl Lokko who needs no ring introduction.
John Laryea has in his record coffers 17 fights, no losses and a draw with 13 KOs. He made his debut in the ring 8 years ago clearing roadblocks of boxers in the likes of Emmanuel Allotey, Kamaradeen Boyefio, Solomon Martey, Alexander Mejia, Holy Dorgbetor and recently Lazarus Namalambo, just to mention but a few.
With a 76.47% knockout ratio and a younger advantage in age of 24, the witty Ghanaian is expected to demonstrate heart, resilience and and electrifying performance against the sluggish Argentine come Saturday night.
Abaja, has tasted some experience and knows what the future lies ahead for him. He has proven to be a boxer of quality jabs that can hurt his opponent slowly but surely.
John Laryea’s orthodox stance is visible. We saw him fight Holy Dorgbetor the last time and as impressive as it was, the Volta Region opponent really tasted the wrath of the latter’s right hand.
On the other side of the coin, Maximiliano Adriana ROBLEDO who happens to be the home favourite boasts of 13 fights, 1 loss no draw with 6 KOs. A 46.15% ratio knockout opponent statistically would not be compared to someone who has 13 KOs in his basket.
I have watched a couple of fights of Robledo especially that one against Braiana Arguello in that 10 round battle. The Argentine was nothing special. His jabs are not so special and does not carry any knockout weight.
He has successes over the likes of Luis Rivera Vargas, Cesar Alejandro Perez and Roberto Horacio all in 2022, defeating Jose Rodolfo Garcia and Aldo Victor Romero all in 2023 Alberto Melian and Brian Ariel Arguello in 2025.
In 2026 he had his bout against Mirazizbek Mirzakha cancelled but on August same year..that was just this year three months ago he accounted for fellow native Diego Alberto Ruiz and won via unanimous decision.
The KO Drug program,a historic WBA initiative will once again reaffirm it’s mission in Buenos Aires using boxing as a fundamental tool for Youth development, social inclusion and positive change around the world.
A quick prediction of the fight favours the aggressive Ghanaian who is clearly thirsty for laurels and must eliminate the bluff of the home favourite.
We have a fight people!!!!
