Faisal Abubakari’s unbeaten run comes to an end in Germany

Faisal Abubakari’s 21-fight unbeaten streak came to an end last night after a 6th-round TKO loss to German boxer Slawa Spomer.

After six rounds, the referee stopped the fight, resulting in Spomer’s victory for the WBA Intercontinental Super Welterweight title.

The fight started with both men having some success, but by round 5, Faisal was fading.

By the end of the 6th round, Spomer was in control of the fight, landing multiple combinations with little coming back from Faisal.

Before this loss, 33-year-old Abubakari was undefeated in 21 fights and had held the WBO Africa and Ghana National Super lightweight titles.

Faisal, who spent most of his career in the super-lightweight division, moved up two divisions to challenge Spomer.

Despite being the smaller boxer on the night, Spomer’s speed and counter-punching proved superior to the Ghanaian’s.

The setback will force Abubakari back to the drawing board.

He will look to rebuild his career and get a few wins under his belt before taking on another top-ranked opponent.
