Discipline Driven Coach Waliwu Alhassan Wants To Produce Boxing Champions From The North
Northern Region Boxing Coach Waliwu Alhassan says he is driven by discipline not motivation.
He was one of the 40 participants of the ‘Fuel To Fight’ Workshop organised by Boxing Is Love, a charity organization of Boxraw and the Wisdom Boxing Gym.
Others who attended the programme were from the Volta Region, Eastern Region and the Republic of Togo, however coaches from Accra dominated.
Coach Alhassan said the workshop was very educational and inspiring, calling for frequent organization of such workshops and seminars to refresh and upgrade the knowledge of trainers.
He expressed that formerly he would wait to be involved but now he wants to create the opportunity.
“if the regions could also host such important programmes, we will be very glad” stressed.
He thanked Ms. Sarah Lotus Asare and Coach Ofori Asare of Wisdom Boxing Gym for getting the link and spreading it to other clubs.
He noted that the northern regions of Ghana, namely Upper West, Upper East, Savanna, Oti North East, and Northern have athletes who can become very good boxers and put Ghana on the world map of boxing.
Coach Waliwu Alhassan presented 9 boxers during the National Individual Amateur Boxing Championship in Accra, unfortunately none was able to climb the podium. He is not perturbed but focused to produce a champion from the north.
“Our foundation is not strong and i pray parents will allow their kids aged 10 to 14 years to come for training* he appealed
He wished Legacy Rise Sports Promotions would stage a fight at the Aliu Mahama lSports Stadium for people to see how the Northern region has boxing fans.
He begged the media to promote sports, especially boxing in the north.
He always finds himself very lucky to be employed by the National Sports Authority (NSA,).
