Devin Haney vs. George Kambosos II is set for this weekend in Australia

It’s fight week as Undisputed lightweight king Devin “The Dream” Haney heads to Australia to face The Ferocious George Kambosos Jr in his homeland.

After a unanimous decision victory for Haney (20-0, 15KOs) four months ago where Kambosos Jr (20-1, 10KOs) suffered his first pro career defeat losing his IBF, WBO & WBA (Super) light straps, the Sydney born former champion will look forward to make amends and restore his status as a world champion.

George Kambosos wants to do something different this weekend after he parted ways with his American trainer Javiel Centeno who was at his corner when he lost to Haney. Kambosos has now reunited with his original trainer Chris Bakis, who will spearhead an all-Australian team for the return bout with Haney at Melbourne‘s Rod Laver Arena, Victoria, Australia.

“I have a new team for this fight,” Kambosos said. Javiel won’t be part of things this time. I wanted to go with an all-Australian team with the fight here locally. I appreciate what Javiel did and it was a mutual decision to part ways.

“Chris Bakis is my head coach for this fight. He was with me for a long time early in my career and with Ronny Sinclair and my cutman Brian Wilmot, I believe I have the best in Australia to help me get my belts back off Devin Haney.” Kambosos revealed.

But Haney on the other hand believes Australian fans will be rooting for him instead of Kambosos.

“I think his trash talk played against him,” said Haney, who won a unanimous points decision to break Kambosos’ heart at Marvel.

“Everything he said he was going to do, he couldn’t do, he didn’t do and it worked against him.

“I feel like Australia has taken me in as one of their own.

“George has made it easier for Australia to latch onto me.

“He is a bit quiet this time. I don‘t know if it’s something strategic or what, but at the end of the day, I will do what I do, whether he is talking loud or he’s not.

“Everything I said I would do in the first fight I did.”

Let’s get ready to rumble as all lightweight titles are at stake this Saturday from Melbourne‘s Rod Laver Arena, Victoria, Australia.
