According to former world champion Amir Khan, there is no doubt that Terence Crawford is the top pound-for-pound fighter in the world.
There is heavy debate regarding the top pound-for-pound fighter in the sport – with Crawford and four division champion Naoya Inoue as the two names being consistently pushed for the top position.
In July, Crawford became a two division undisputed champion with a one-sided stoppage of longtime welterweight rival Errol Spence.
Khan, who was stopped by Crawford in 2019, did not expect such a dominating performance.
“Crawford [is the top pound-for-pound], the way he beat Spence in a fight that nobody ever expected. I didn’t really think that he was going to do it that easily. The way he went in that ring and put on a great performance, punch perfect, he was a powerful fighter in there, he had more speed. He just looked physically stronger. He ticked all the boxes for me. And I think with that win against Spence, you have to say Crawford is pound-for-pound number one,” Khan told Radio Rahim of Seconds Out.
Last Thursday, Spence exercised his contractual right to an immediate rematch.
There is a possibility of the rematch taking place at the junior middleweight limit of 154-pounds. Regardless of the weight, Khan is expecting to see the same outcome as we did in July.
“It’s gonna be the same result. I just feel like Spence didn’t even have a chance in the first fight and in the rematch it’s gonna happen again. I think Crawford is gonna do a job on him again. I like Spence, don’t get me wrong. For the Olympics he trained in my academy in Bolton. But the thing is, Crawford is the better fighter,” Khan said.
