Coach Benjamin Kofi Essilfie, a popular boxing personality now working at The Gym says he and the entire members are very glad that they presented three boxers to the Ghana Boxing Federation Individual Amateur Boxing Championship and one is in the final after two fell off at the quarter finals stage.
“We did our best and we give thanks and praise to the most high and the Federation for the good start of their programmes and events,” he said on The Big Fight Night on Omashi TV last Friday.
Kofi, who is described as a controversial figure, expressed that he loves the truth so he searches for it and does not appreciate cheating.
He revealed that boxing has been his life starting at a tender age visiting and sleeping in gyms, learning how to time, carrying boxing equipment and following popular boxers like Alfred Tetteh aka ‘Stinging Bee’ before meeting James Armah aka Bukom Fire, moving with Braimah Kamoko aka Bukom Banku, Bukom Tsatsu aka Joshua Okine and others.
He named Coach Kwatelai Quartey aka Wutor of the Bukom Boxing Gym as the man who gave him the solid boxing foundation, and later stayed at Sonia Gym for about 15 years.
Kofi thanked Nii Adama Addy aka Nii Gonti Adjor 1 Atukpai Mantse and owner of The Gym for his support and encouragement.
The Gym is where boxers like UBO Africa / National Super Welterweight Champion Sampson Segbedzi and former IBF Africa Featherweight Champion Holy Dorgbetor train.
Nii Gonti is known for managing Joseph ‘King Kong’ Agbeko to win a world title for Ghana.
They also operate a nursery school, Great Aim Academy and snack bar at the High Street behind Enterprise Insurance head office in Accra.
The Gym now has Robert Tetteh Lokko aka ‘Problem’ at the finals and he has vowed to beat his opponent from Wisdom Boxing Club.
Lokko said “This is my opportunity to breakthrough as a boxer and I will not let the chance slip since I know what is at stake” he expressed.
