Veteran Time Keeper / Bellman Edward Addo Expresses Joy At Boxing Ghana Awards Recognition
People call him ‘Ataa Addo’, but his real name is Edward Addo and resides at Mamprobi. He loves boxing but he is not strong to fight so he decided to become a referee,
But on an occasion when the man in charge was not in, he gave it a chance and for over 40 years he has been the official timekeeper at most if not all professional and amateur boxing bouts in Ghana.
He is a retired civilian employee at the Ghana Armed Forces and his best boxer is Geirge Ashie.
In an exclusive interview at the 2025 Boxing Ghana Awards where he was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award, he congratulated the organisers for identifying him, after 40 years and honouring him on a special occasion.
“In fact I am very happy today and I thank boxinghana.com for the recognition and reward. It has not been easy but for the love of boxing we keep on doing what we love” he said.According to Addo, he is training one Bernard Addo to become the next Time Keeper.
He was honoured alongside some boxing legends and many others who excelled in the last boxing season.
