Three More Days To End The Ga-Mashie Boxing Heritage Exhibition

A new boxing exhibition focusing on the roots of boxing has opened in Accra.

 

The exhibition titled Jamestown Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow is an exhibition on GA-MASHIE Boxing Heritage opened on the 27th of January, 2022 at the National Museum of Science and Technology.

 

The program is organized by the Department of Archaeology and Heritage Studies, University of Ghana, Legon in collaboration with University of Exter and Imagining Futures. It’s a 2 weeks educational exposition on Ga- Mashie Boxing Heritage which will end on Friday, 4th of February 2022.

 

The display features photos, videos and boxing equipments sharing the story of the sport and the coastal community.

 

The innovative program which seeks to bring museums to communities has attracted several high profile policy makers including the UNESCO, as well as key players in the boxing fraternity.

 

The event which features clubs with the Ga-Mashie enclave has attracted these reactions

 

Mr. Jojo Epson, Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF) who was present at the event admitted “the program is a good exposure for the work of the GBF”

Augustus Dodoo, a publicist and media practitioner said that “this event is very timely as we are failing in many places here in Ghana, so we need to know the root and how the whole of boxing came up in Ghana. People think boxing is for the coastal people but everyone can do boxing”

All respondents lamented about the short time of the exhibition. However, be reminded that the exhibition is not yet late. The exhibition closes on Friday, hence, boxing fans who wishes to visit the exhibition center have 3 more days to go learn more about the boxing heritage in Ga-Mashie.
