Accra, Ghana – August 1, 2026 — A group of 30 member delegates of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), the governing body for professional boxing in Ghana, has formally petitioned the GBA Secretary General to convene an Extraordinary Congress to appoint a five-member Elections Committee to oversee the election of a substantive Executive Board.
In a letter copied to the Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA) and the Minister for Sports and Recreation, the delegates invoked Article 4.10 of the GBA Constitution, which empowers members to request an Extraordinary Congress under the appropriate circumstances.
The stakeholders have proposed Tuesday, August 11, 2026, as the date for the Extraordinary Congress, with The Gym Boxing and Fitness Club suggested as the venue.
According to the delegates, the request has become necessary following the expiration of the mandate of the Interim Management Committee (IMC) of the Ghana Boxing Authority. They contend that while the IMC’s primary mandate ended in April 2026, it also failed to meet its extended June 2026 deadline to supervise the election of a substantive Executive Board.
The stakeholders believe that appointing an independent Elections Committee is a crucial constitutional step toward restoring normal governance within the Ghana Boxing Authority.
They argue that once constituted, the committee should be given a clear timeline to organize transparent, credible, and fair elections in accordance with the GBA Constitution.
The planned elections are expected to usher in a substantive Executive Board that will administer the affairs of professional boxing in Ghana for the next four years, as stipulated under the Authority’s constitutional provisions.
The move is seen by many within the boxing fraternity as a significant step toward strengthening governance, promoting accountability, and ensuring constitutional compliance within the Ghana Boxing Authority.
