DUBLIN — Irish boxing icon Katie Taylor is set to close out one of the most legendary careers in combat sports history on home soil.
Undisputed Super Lightweight World Champion Katie Taylor (25-1, 6 KOs) will enter the ring for the final time on Saturday, September 5, when she defends her crown against undefeated French challenger Flora Pili (12-0, 2 KOs) at Croke Park in Dublin. Promoted by Matchroom Boxing in association with Brian Peters, the monumental event will broadcast live globally on DAZN.
The bout marks the fulfilment of a long-standing dream for the 2012 Olympic gold medalist and multi-division undisputed champion, bringing big-time professional boxing back to Ireland’s 82,300-capacity national stadium for the first time since 1972.
Up for grabs alongside Taylor’s WBA, WBO, IBF, and Ring Magazine 140-pound belts will be the vacant WBC super lightweight title. A victory over Pili would see Taylor crown her career by becoming a three-time undisputed world champion before hanging up the gloves for good.
Pili, a former European super lightweight champion who claimed the IBO strap in December, steps into enemy territory with zero losses on her record and nothing to lose. However, all eyes on September 5 will be on the Bray native as she looks to write the final chapter of a career that transformed women’s boxing worldwide.
