Former IBF World Light champion, Richard Commey (29-3, 26KOs), is leaving no stone unturned ahead of his much-awaited comeback.

The James Town native has been away from the ring for over a year after losing his IBF strap to Teofimo Lopez at the Madison Square Garden, the Mecca of boxing on December 14, 2019.

Now, Commey will be making a return to the ring on February 13, 2021, against Jackson Marinez (19-1, 7KOs) at the Bubble, MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Ahead of the big clash, Commey had an exclusive interview with Boxingghana.com.

According to Commey, he is happy to be making a return to the ring:

“Feels so great to be back after over a year layoff,” he said. “I’m very excited to show the world I still got plenty in me to offer.”

Speaking about his preparations for the fight, the former Commonwealth lightweight champion said, “So far so good it is tough and I’m getting the right sparring.”

Talking about his opponent, Commey said he is not underestimating him as he has a solid record.

“Well, he has had 19 fights with one lost so I’m not underestimating him.”

He added, “Every boxer has a quality to cause a problem.”

Marinez’s last outing in the ring was August 8, 2020, when he suffered his professional loss Rolando Romero – he failed to win the WBA interim world lightweight belt at stake.
