Coach Ebenezer Adjei expresses joy after his trainee Alfred Lamptey wins the WBO and WBC Youth title after stopping Iddi Kayumba.

Alfred Lamptey promised Ghanaians he was going to give Ghana two titles on the night of his bout against Iddi Kayumba of Tanzania, a much-experienced boxer and also older than the Ghanaian rising star.

As many wondered how Alfred and his team were going to deliver on their promise, Coach Ebenezer Adjei alias ‘Coach Killer’ and his team kept a constant monitor on their opponent, watching his movements and his mode of attack and weaknesses in the ring.

Alfred Lamptey who promised a KO in the early rounds had to dig deep into the 10th round to secure a win by way of TKO to win the WBC Youth Silver and WBO Youth Super featherweight titles.

In an exclusive interview between BoxinGhana.com reporter and the Coach of Alfred Lamptey, the coach excitedly said,

“I am very much excited about the victory, I knew we will win but I never thought it would come that easy. That does not mean Alfred’s opponent is not a good boxer.

We really planned for the bout, we trained for more than three months and we knew getting into the ring with Iddi was already a done deal on any day. We always watched his videos and we become conversant with is boxing style.

Watching his game plan was part of our planning process, the guy is a very good boxer, but we outclassed him, he is much experienced, but we had to fight every inch for the victory.

I can not express my joy enough over the phone, but you can hear and feel the vibe behind the scenes. Now that we have won these titles, we will sit down with the team, we have to fight for the national titles, we either fight in the super featherweight or maintain the featherweight going forward.

Many people will not understand my joy and gratitude but I will honestly like to say a very big thank you to Mr. Abraham Kotei Neeuquaye, I have known him even before he become president of the GBA and he has been phenomenal to the improvement of our camp. His constant visits, words of encouragement and support in various ways has been just off the book. Presido, I appreciate you for all that you stand for and all that you are doing.

I would like to use this medium to thank all coaches, various gyms, GBA executives, promoters and the media, we are very grateful for making our victory worth celebrating and we promise to bring home more than this.”
