Canelo Fired Back For Criticising Crawford’s Resume

It was fun at first. The chance to face a fighter as great as Terence Crawford? For Canelo Alvarez, he sat back and fantasized about it before shaking his head and snapping back to reality.

It didn’t make sense to spend a ton of time on that subject. Crawford has all of the skills in the world but he fights at 147 pounds, or in other words, three weight classes below Alvarez.

Crawford though, went from quietly expressing interest to pushing the envelope. Although he was reluctant at first, the 35-year-old realized that standing between himself and solidifying his all-time status even more was 21 pounds. So, on a whim, the pound-for-pound star revealed that he’d be willing to move up to the super middleweight division.

Alvarez though, believes that Crawford’s recent win is getting to his head a bit. When last seen, Errol Spence Jr. was on the wrong end of a lopsided beating. Shortly after, Alvarez gave Crawford all of the credit in the world. With that said, the megastar took a long look at Crawford’s resume. After doing so, Alvarez came to the conclusion that Spence was the only notable name that Crawford shared the ring with.

Several members of Team Crawford were perturbed by his comments, none more than Bernie Davis, otherwise known as Bernie Tha Boxer. Crawford’s good friend and hype man took the time to dissect Alvarez’s resume as well. Once he finished analyzing what he saw, Davis is now of the belief that Alvarez hasn’t fought a murderous row.

“The only good or great fighter that he beat was (Gennadiy Golovkin) GGG,” said Davis on Tha Boxing Voice.

Alvarez, of course, shared the ring with Golovkin on three separate occasions, going 2-0-1.

If he wanted, Davis could have spent the next few hours chastising Alvarez, who has a showdown against Jermell Charlo coming up at the end of the month. Ultimately, he took the high road. Fulminating in public, at least in his opinion, won’t speed up the negotiating process.

In the end, Davis is hoping that his good friend is given an opportunity. Although beating Alvarez is a difficult task, Davis has no doubt that Crawford can get it done.

“I think it’s a helluva fight. I think we can outbox that guy.”
