British boxer Joe Joyce is set to be upgraded to an Olympic gold medalist five years after his controversial defeat to Tony Yoka at the Rio 2016 Games, reports say.

Yoka beat Joyce to gold in Rio, Brazil FIVE years ago but the result is ‘likely’ to be overturned after an investigation into allegations of widespread corruption in the judging of fights and the appointment of referees and judges, according to the Daily Mail.

The results of the findings are due to be published on Thursday, per the report.

Joyce struck gold at the 2014 Commonwealth Games and competed at the 2015 World Championships where he won the bronze medal before being controversially denied by the judges in the final of the men’s super-heavyweight boxing ring in Rio.

However, the 36-year-old refused to let the result weigh him down, and turned professional a year later at the age of 31, signing with David Haye’s now-defunct Hayemaker Ringstar promotions in 2017.

Joyce also spoke earlier this year about how he expects to meet Yoka again at some point in the future, referencing his 12-month ban for missing three drug tests between July 2016 and July 2017.
