Benin’s Klaklevi decisions Martei Laryea as fans leave with mixed feelings

Ghanaian boxing fans came in their numbers to support Samuel Nii Martei Laryea last Saturday night.

Nii Martei, alias the ‘Eagle Eye’ is certainly one of the most popular boxing prospects in Ghana at the moment. He has a huge fanbase engaging on social media, and in person, visibly high on the night as his supporters did not disappoint, clad in T-shirts with the logo of the boxer (Samuel Nii Martei Laryea) with eagles on either side of his shoulder came out in their numbers to cheer him on to victory.

Samuel Martei a prospect of Ace Power Promotions was matched against Benin’s Kouassi Martin Klaklevi by Augustus Dodoo for an eight round super bantam contest.

The bout excited fans who could feel the heat of the closely contested bout. The bout ended in a unanimous victory for Klaklevi; the Benin boxer could not hide his joy as he jumps for joy hugging his corner members.

The decision left Ghanaian boxing fans divided as some believed that the Ghanaian did enough to win the contest, whilst others were of the opinion that Martei had moments of confusion when Klaklevi changed his style from orthodox to southpaw and back.

Klaklevi has remained in Accra after his victory, he will retire to the Volta Region as he’s preparing to make a return on the 31st of March 2023 on the Aborigines Fight Night in Aflao in the Volta Region of Ghana against a yet to be named opponent.
