Theophilus ‘Lopez Jr’ Allotey secured his fifth career championship this past weekend with a
stunning seventh-round TKO against Jonas Erastus. Despite this success, Allotey’s sights
are set on a higher prize: a world title.
Having made his professional debut in 2024, Allotey’s accolades now include the national
title, the UBO Continental, WBO Africa, WBO Global, and the WBA Africa title.
While they might look like trinkets, these championship belts are vital for a boxer’s journey
toward winning the ultimate world title.
Allotey dominated the fight against his Namibian opponent Erastus on Friday.
In his typical fashion, Erastus came in with relentless forward pressure, seeking to deliver
overhand blows at his opponent.
Allotey used counterpunches and uppercuts to neutralize his attacks and keep Erastus at
bay. In the seventh round, referee Roger Barnor stopped the fight after determining Erastus
was unfit to continue.
Undefeated in 14 bouts, Allotey is the frontrunner to become Ghana’s next world champion.
He’s arguably the best super flyweight boxer on the continent. The 23-year-old boxer also
holds top-15 rankings from the WBO, IBF, and WBC, and is the 10th-ranked fighter by Ring
Magazine and will likely be listed in the WBA world rankings in the next edition.
There is no doubt Theophilus Allotey has a bright future ahead, with the boxing world eager
for his rise and millions of people in his country supporting him.
