Shakul Samed and Samuel Martei Laryea to compete for titles in Tanzania
Shakul Samed and Samuel Martei Laryea are set for their toughest challenge on July 30th, as they travel to hostile ground for a fight aiming for victory.
The fighters are set to compete as part of the undercard for the ‘Knock Out Ya Mama Season 9’ event, which will be held at the Super Dome Arena in Dar-Es-Salaam, Tanzania.
Richard Mtangi (17-1-1, 13 KOs) the current WBO Africa Middleweight champion, will defend his title against Shakul Samed (15-1, 14 KOs) in a 10-round bout.
This marks the first time in his career that Samed, a 2020 Olympian, will contend for a title. His record stands at 15 wins and 1 loss, the latter against Saulo Saldivar in the WBC Riyadh Grand Prix.
Mtangi will revel in the home crowd advantage as he fights in his native country to defend his WBO Africa Middleweight title for the third time.
The Super Dome Arena will also host Ghanaian bantamweight contender Samuel Martei Laryea (9-1-1, 8 KOs) as he takes on Ibrahim Mafia (16-1-2, 11 KOs), the WBC’s 27th ranked fighter, in a bout for the WBC International Silver Bantam title.
One could easily argue that Laryea ranks among the country’s best bantamweights. Winning this match will allow him to show his skills against a highly ranked opponent and potentially enter the WBC rankings.
The main event will feature Tanzania’s Mchanja Yohana against Fillipino boxer John Vincent Lauriaga in a 10-round fight for the WBC International Silver Flyweight Title.
Yohana is favored to keep his top 40 WBC ranking against his less experienced opponent.
