UNIVERSAL BOXING COUNCIL (UBC) ANNOUNCES PLANS FOR THE FIRST-EVER AFRICAN YOUTH CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE EVENT
Asaba, Nigeria – (Scheduled for 2026) — The Universal Boxing Council (UBC), one of the world’s emerging professional boxing sanctioning bodies, has officially announced plans to host the first-ever UBC African Youth Championship, a three-day international boxing event designed to empower and showcase young boxing talents across the African continent.
The groundbreaking championship will be sanctioned by the UBC and promoted in partnership with Core Afrique Boxing Promotions (COABOX) — a renowned Nigerian boxing promotion company dedicated to discovering and developing boxing talents at the grassroots level.
According to the African President of the Universal Boxing Council, Onyeka Eboma Elum, an indigene of Ossissa Kingdom in Ndokwa East Local Government Area of Delta State, Nigeria, the event will mark “a new dawn for African boxing” and “a unifying platform for youth across Africa to showcase their potential and skill on a global stage.”
“The UBC African Youth Championship is not just another boxing event — it’s a continental movement designed to promote discipline, sportsmanship, and opportunity for the next generation of African boxers,” said Elum.
“Africa has produced some of the world’s most powerful fighters, and it’s time to build a homegrown platform that gives our youth the recognition and stage they deserve.”
The upcoming UBC African Youth Championship will feature top emerging boxers from various African nations, competing for officially sanctioned UBC Youth titles. The event is expected to attract global attention, sports tourism, and widespread media coverage — highlighting Africa’s growing influence in the world of professional boxing.
In addition to the championship bouts, the event will include a cultural opening ceremony, live entertainment, and awards presentations celebrating the role of boxing in youth development and peace-building across Africa.
Core Afrique Boxing Promotions (COABOX), co-promoter of the championship, has a track record of hosting major boxing events in Nigeria and remains committed to nurturing the sport through innovation, inclusivity, and entertainment-driven promotion.
“This partnership with the Universal Boxing Council represents a major step forward for African boxing,” said a COABOX representative.
“We’re committed to creating a platform where young athletes can transition from local champions to international stars.”
The UBC African Youth Championship is projected to become an annual continental event, rotating across different African nations and promoting sports diplomacy, unity, and youth engagement through boxing.
