Ms. Sarah Lotus Asare, the Administrator and Assistant Organizer of the Greater Accra Boxing Association (GABA) together with the GABA board in their pursuit to ensure majority of the girl child having a voice in society to decide and impact on the lives of others took further an initiative that will take majority of girls off the street through a boxing initiative supported by the over 18 gyms in Accra to ensure continuity and stability should they pursue the boxing career.

With the load of girls waiting for such an opportunity, GABA and Sarah Lotus Asare through their scouting process have pre-selected 24 girls who showed interest in the sport for further assistance. These numbers were mainly from the James Town and Chorkor areas with their doors open to all who would love to take advantage of this initiative.

To ensure these girls go through the right channel. Ms. Sarah Lotus Asare in an exclusive interview said “we made ample arrangement to meet with the parents of all the 24 selected children with a written consent to ensure we do not breach any rights of the children.” She further stated that “we (GABA) through this initiative would accordingly assign these girls to the various boxing gyms in Accra to ensure our girls are well groomed by professionals as well as will be visited by professional boxers to educate them on the sport.

It will not end there as we will constantly educate them on other aspects of life including but not limited to hygiene, career choice and its opportunities, social interaction among others.”

As the saying has always been “what men can do, women can do better”, GABA in their initiative projected ensuring their girls who will be taken through the training process will be well groomed and readied for the future without fear.

Likewise they will be adequately equipped with what it takes to become icons in their homes and societies and may be called upon to serve as ambassadors to the numerous young girls who will be looking up to their influence.
