Samuel Takyi declares himself ‘face of Ghana boxing’ in new promo video

Samuel Takyi, who secured Ghana’s most recent Olympic medal, has signed with Legacy Rise Promotions.

The promotional company shared the announcement via social media.

The 50-second promo video showcases Takyi reflecting on his achievements, inter-cut with training footage and shadow boxing. In addition, he also states, “I am the face of Ghana boxing.”

The 25-year-old boxer broke a 29-year Olympic medal drought when he captured a bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Since he turned professional in 2022, Takyi has steadily advanced his career, maintaining an undefeated record across 8 fights and defeating mostly favourable opponents.

His claim of ‘Face of Ghana Boxing’ has been met with some opposition, with many feeling that several other boxers like Theophilus Allotey, Freezy Macbones and John Laryea have a much stronger claim to that title.

Takyi has been averaging two fights per year since his pro debut, which many believe is at a slow pace compared to the expectations place on him.

On the other hand, Takyi is of the opinion that everything happens in his own time and that when the time is right, he will achieve his dream of becoming a world champion.

Come September 19th, he will face his biggest test yet against Botswana boxer Steven Bagwasi (9-2, 2 KOs).

Steven Bagwasi is a pacesetter is his own right. He became Botswana’s first professional boxing world champion when he won the WBF super-featherweight title in 2022.

The fight will take place on the undercard of Theophilus Allotey vs Facundo Garcia event on September 19 at the Bukom Boxing Arena.
