FIVE ALGERIANS IN TODAY’S QUARTER-FINALS ACTION

Seven boxers from this North African country have already been eliminated.

It’s back to the squared circle for five Algerian boxers in today’s men’s quarter-finals of the ongoing Strandja Memorial tournament in Sofia, Bulgaria.

The five Algerian boxers in the ring today are bantamweight Khalil Litim (pictured left in action in red attire), welterweight Abdenacer Benlaribi, light-middleweight Mohamed Makhelouf, middleweight Abderaouf Ghazli Ahmed and light-heavyweight Mohamed Houmri.

Litim, a silver medallist in the 2015 African Games, battles 2019/2020 European Youth champion, Bulgaria’s Yasen Radov, Benlaribi meets Bulgaria’s Rosen Markov, Makhelouf, making his international debut in Sofia, fights European U22 champion Moldova’s Vasilie Cebotari, Ahmed has a date with Ukraine’s Viacheslav Bryhaden and Tokyo Olympian Houmri meets Moldova’s Andrei Chiriacov.

Algeria is already assured of one medal through minimumweight Kamel Khennousi who will clash with India’s Barun Shagolshem Singh in the semi-finals on Saturday (February 10).

A total of seven Algerian boxers – four women and three men – have already been eliminated from the Strandja Memorial. They are light-flyweight Fatiha Mansouri, bantamweight Fatma Zohra, featherweight Chahira Selmouni, lightweight Hadjila Khelif, flyweight Amed Moziane, featherweight Hichem Maouche and lightweight Oussama Mordjane.
