EIGHT (8) DAYS TO THE GRAND WABA SHOWDOWN IN KETA, GHANA: THE BATTLE OF TORKOR ATORLIA
Only eight (8) days remain until the Supreme WABA Prof Azumah Nelson Champion Emeritus Super Featherweight World Championship, featuring Michael Poppoe and Michael Ansah, takes place at the Aborigine Beach Resort Club in Keta town. This venue is owned and operated by Gilbert Mitch Woollams, who also manages the promotional brand of Aborigine Boxing Promotion in Ghana.
During the Battle of Torkor Atolia, three WABA Supreme World titles will be contested as five Ghanaian fighters and a Beninese contender, Justin Hounkpevi, vie for the vacant WABA Global and world titles.
Ghanaians Saviour Gad and Eliasu Sulley will face off for the vacant WABA Supreme Global Super Middleweight Championship, while in a clash between Anglophone and Francophone fighters, Ghana’s Abubak Mubarak will compete against Beninese Justin Hounkpevi for the vacant WABA Supreme World Super Middleweight Championship.
This tournament is dedicated to honoring Africa’s finest, Prof Azumah Nelson, who has made significant contributions to the sport of boxing on a global scale.
Nelson, a former two-weight world champion, will be the only living boxing legend to have a championship named in his honor.
The organizer, Gilbert Mitch Woollams, along with WABA, aims to establish this event as an annual gathering, where the two world titles that Prof Azumah Nelson secured during his boxing career (Featherweight and Super Featherweight) will be the focal point of the event.
The President of WABA, Hon Ky Col Onesmo Alfred McBride Ngowi, will serve as the Chief Supervisor for the three Supreme titles, while Prof Azumah Nelson and a group of celebrities will be present at ringside at the Aborigine Beach Resort Club, the venue for the event.
Ghanaian renowned international referee Rogers Barnor will officiate the main bout, supported by other experienced ring officials for the remaining two supreme championships.
