Carlos Adames reveals why he doesn’t call out Jaime Munguia

WBC interim-middleweight champion Carlos Adames is not confident in his ability to secure the biggest fights in his weight division.

On Saturday night, Adames picked up a ninth round stoppage win over former unified champion Julian Williams.

Now he wants to target one of the other top names or champions in the division.

But if he doesn’t get a proper fight at middleweight, Adames doesn’t rule out the possibility of heading up for a fight at the super middleweight limit of 168.

“Alimkhanuly has a belt. Esquiva Falcao has another. Lara is scheduled to fight. I’m not confident [of facing them]. It’s going to be a pretty long process, little by little, but as I told you, God’s timing is perfect and I’ll have that chance,” Adames told George Ebro.

“I’ve thought about moving up to 168 pounds. Go and beat Caleb Plant, beat [David] Benavidez. I can fight any of them. I sparred with Caleb Plant. I sparred with Benavidez. They already know me. I don’t think that division is a problem for me. I am very strong and I have what it takes to be there too.”

Another name that Adames would be ready and willing to face is Jaime Munguia – but he doubts the Mexican slugger will face him after turning down opportunities in the past.

“I think he fears me. Not only him, but the circle of people that surround him I think they fear me. They know I’m a pretty dangerous fighter. I’m not easy prey. If it had been easy, they would have made the decision to face me a long ago. They know I’m a risk, a tough nut to crack. If I head up to 168, he’s going to move up, because he wants to avoid Carlos Adames. That’s why I don’t mention him. He has to face fighters like me, David Morell, Charlo,” Adames said.
