Michael Abban climbs to 15 in WBO World Ranking
Michael Abban (15-1, 10 KOs) has secured the 15th spot in the WBO World Super Flyweight rankings for the month of August.
The 23-year-old prospect earned the spot after beating South African boxer Yanga Sigqibo in August, in a fight that also allowed him to successfully defend his WBA Pan Africa title.
Since February 2026, Michael Abban has been recognized among the top 40 boxers within the WBC rankings. With this ranking, Michael Abban moves closer to a world title and stakes his claim as a top super flyweight in the world.
Abban has fought three times in 2026, winning all three convincingly. He’s currently on a six fight winning streak and has only lost once in 15 fights.
His compatriot, Theophilus Allotey, also moved up one spot in the WBO rankings, from 13th to 12th. Allotey still maintains a number 9 ranking by the Ring Magazine and is gearing up to face Facundo David Garcia on September 19.
Currently, Michael Abban and Theophilus Allotey are the only Ghana-based boxers to feature in world rankings.
Faisal Abubakari, another Ghanaian prospect, held the 15th spot in the WBO’s super lightweight division in March.
However, he was removed from the rankings because he had not fought any opponents of consequence.
He will be challenging for the WBA Inter-Continental Super Welterweight titlein Germany agasint Slawa Spomer on September 5th.
