…SWAG Award Winner Aims High

Amadu Mohammed, the 2024 SWAG Best Boxer says his dream is to participate at the 2028 LA Olympic Games.

“My dream is to win a medal at every championship, be it National, Africa, World Championship and Olympic Games. I have to win to make my fans happy, the SWAG award has made me popular and famous, I have to step up.train hard to realise the dream, make it a reality” the 20 year old amateur boxer said.

According to the product of Sea View Boxing Club, despite the lack of equipment at the gym he was able to qualify to represent Ghana at the 2023 World Championships where he was the only African boxer to reach the Quarter Finals.

He also participated in the 13th African Games and stopped three opponents to become the category winner.

At the recent 2026 National Individual Championship, he won gold.

Amadu lost his father at a tender age and Coach Gabriel Allotey aka ‘Zico’ who picked him at age 6 and nurtured him to become a super star. The goal is to become a national hero.

Amadu speaks fluent English and is one of the disciplined boxers in the system, having won Gold at the 2026 Individual Amateur Boxing Championship.

He may be chosen as skipper of the Black Bombers when it is reconstituted.

He has declared to serve his nation and go to the Commonwealth, World and Olympic Games before turning professional.

“My team has a plan, and we are taking everything, opportunity and chances one by one, we hope to realise our dream” he added.

He noted that the 49th Sports Writers Association of Ghana Awards (SWAG) is the first time he received an important award graced by the Vice President of Ghana, Sports Minister, GOC President, GBF Presidents and other dignitaries.

“I really loved the feeling as this award has made me realise myself and I dedicate it to my gym. Sea View Club, the founder. members and fans” he stressed.

On a sad note, his gym at Jamestown is in trouble as they have been ordered by the land owners to quit the premise. He therefore appeals to the sports, youth and employment authorities for help and support as he is a national asset.
