Sensational super middleweight boxer Elvis Ahorgah shared his discontent with the insufficient information provided to boxers in a recent interview.
The sentiments were related to his ban by the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA). This ban was a consequence of him competing in Nigeria without the required medical clearance from the GBA doctor in November 2025.
The fight proceeded, though Ahorgah competed with a license from the Nigerian Boxing Board of Control (NBBofC) against Dossou Houenou, ultimately winning by unanimous decision.
He also stated that he was unaware of the necessary procedures and clearances for competing in other African countries.
The ideal approach is for a boxer to get written medical clearance from the GBA in order to participate in boxing fights outside of the country,
“We need boxing seminars to explain the rules,” Ahorgah said during his Game TV interview.
Following the bout, the GBA fined him, his trainer, and the matchmaker, all of whom are Ghanaian.
Ahorgah further clarified that even though he fought under a Nigerian license, he remains loyal to Ghana. “I can’t denounce my country. My whole life is here. I made the decision at that time in order for the fight to go on.”
The issue brings to light the need for boxers to be informed about the rules and regulations of the sport to prevent sanctions and the loss of income from not being able to compete.
