Theophilus Allotey, the newly crowned WBO Global super flyweight champion, has had an impressive year, winning all six of his fights.

While staying active helps boxers remain in the public eye, winning matches while active generates even more positive momentum.

The 23-year-old began his 2025 campaign with a win over Jonathan Agbeviade (0-4) in January, securing a TKO in the fourth round when his opponent did not answer the bell for the fifth round.

He made a quick turnaround in February, where he defeated Lukman Akiniugbade (9-4-1) of Nigeria via a 5th-round TKO after knocking Lukman down twice.

In April, he won the UBO Continental Super flyweight title by stopping David Tagoe (13-4-1, 12 KOs) in the seventh round.

Allotey’s winning streak continued as he beat the previously undefeated Daniel Gorsh by unanimous decision, thereby claiming the WBO Africa Bantamweight title.

His sole fight between July and November was against Kouassi Klaklevi of Benin, which Allotey won by a fourth-round TKO.

His most recent bout was against the Philippines’ Jayr Raquinel, a highly ranked contender, at the Legacy Rise event, which took place on December 20th.

Allotey used his timing and speed to neutralize Raquinel’s attacks, putting on a great performance. After a unanimous decision, Allotey won the WBO Global Super flyweight title and advanced in the global ranking.

With the guidance of head coach Kwesi Ofori Asare and the support of his team at Wisdom Boxing Gym, Allotey enjoyed a winning year, highlighted by his latest victory.

The coming year promises to be a busy one for Allotey; as the old saying goes, ‘the reward for good work is more work’. His win over Raquinel likely opens the opportunity for a fight overseas and possibly against a high-ranked contender.

Following his transition to professional boxing in July 2024, ‘Lopez Jr.’ Allotey has experienced a successful period, emerging victorious in all 12 of his bouts. In the process, he has won four titles: the National super flyweight, WBO Global and UBO Continental super flyweight, and WBO Africa bantamweight.

During his amateur run, Allotey won the bronze medal at the 2023 African Games, held in Accra. That same year, he took home another bronze medal at the Dakar Olympic Qualifiers.

Currently, in the WBO super flyweight rankings, the champion, undefeated and pound-for-pound ranked boxer Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez, holds the top position, additionally boasting of unified champion status. In July 2025, ‘Bam’ Rodriguez (23-0, 16 KOs) secured the WBO belt by a TKO win against South Africa’s Phumelela Cafu.

The future looks promising for Theophilus Allotey, who is now arguably among the world’s top 20 super flyweight boxers.

Beyond super flyweight, he has options in other weight classes above or below to find more fight opportunities.
