Kingsley Ibeh calls out Anthony Joshua for fight in Nigeria
Streaking Nigerian heavyweight Kingsley Ibeh has challenged former world champion Anthony Joshua, proposing a potential fight in Nigeria.
The WBC Central American champion, Ibeh, believes he could present Joshua with his toughest test to date.
Joshua’s manager, Eddie Hearn, disclosed intentions for a match in February, possibly hosted in Africa. Several boxers, including Martin Bakole, have called Joshua out to a match upon his comeback, which will be more than a year after his 2024 defeat by Dubois.
In his most recent fight, Kingsley Ibeh was victorious over Gerald Washington, winning the vacant WBC FECARBOX heavyweight title in El Salvador.
Coming from a boxing family, Ibeh’s cousin is Ike Ibeabuchi, who previously held the WBC International heavyweight champion.
However, even with an 11-fight winning streak, Kingsley may be eyeing a fight with Anthony Joshua, who seems to have different career goals in mind.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Ibeh stated, “We need the right platform and the right opponent to make a statement with and there’d be no better one than AJ.”
“I would definitely stop him, no questions about that, it’s going to come down to how soon or how quickly it goes.”
After three straight defeats in title fights, Joshua aims to get back in the title picture by fighting a notable opponent. There has been talk of him facing Tyson Fury, Fabio Wardley, Deontay Wilder, or potentially having rematches with Joseph Parker or Andy Ruiz.
Joshua’s desire to fight in Nigeria may just be the fuel for a potential Joshua-Ibeh match, as Ibeh would be a suitable challenger for such a bout.
