Benjamin Tetteh to face Idowu Rasheed for WBA Africa Light Heavyweight title
The WBA Africa Light heavyweight title is set to be contested on September 26th by undefeated Ghanaian boxer Benjamin Tetteh and Nigerian boxer Idowu Rasheed.
The bout will take place at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos.
Now in his second year as a professional boxer, Benjamin Tetteh (7-0, 6 KOs) will face his toughest test yet for a regional belt.
The 26-year-old has been one of the more active Ghanaian prospects, competing five times in 2025 while this upcoming bout will be his third fight of 2026.
He would try to win the championship that Jonathan ‘Worldwide’ Tetteh secured last year in his match with Seth Gyimah.
‘Worldwide’ has since been stripped of the title owing to a shoulder injury he sustained last month.
On the other side of the pond, Idowuu Rasheed (12-2-1, 11 KOs) will look to upset the Ghanaian and claim yet another title in his career.
Rasheed is famous among Ghanaians for being the boxer to hand Bastie Samir his second professional defeat to win the Universal Boxing Organization (UBO) Africa Light Heavyweight Championship in 2024.
Idowu Rasheed is the more tested and experienced fighter and the favourite going into this fight.
Fighting in his home country with the support of his fans will also be an advantage for him.
The big question of whether Benjamin Tetteh is ready for a challenge like this so early in his career also comes into play.
However, experience doesn’t always guarantee victory, and Tetteh aims to demonstrate this on September 26th.
