Daniel Amomba to face Maxwell Awuku for National Title in Tamale

The Aliu Mahama Sport Stadium will host the “Northern Rumble” boxing event on December 5th, featuring some of the region’s finest fighters.

Among them is Daniel Amomba (16-1-1, 16 KOs) who will take on former world title challenger Maxwell Awuku (50-8-1, 34 KOs) in a bout for the national middleweight title.

Amomba has been on an unending campaign for a nationla title and is finally getting his wish to compete in one.

The 30-year-old, who also works as an army officer aims to accelerate his boxing career and advance through the ranks to attain higher accolades.

Since 2023, Amomba has been building his career steadily, losing only once in 2024 to Aminu Quarshie, who was undefeated at the time.

And since that loss, Amomba has been on a 13-fight unbeaten streak while fighting both in Togo and Ghana.

His opponent, Maxwell Awuku is best known for challenging for the WBC World Super Featherweight title, though he lost to Miguel Berchelt by third-round TKO.

He previously also held the WBO Africa and WBA Pan African super featherweight titles.

At 43, Maxwell Awuku’s best days may be behind him, but he remains a formidable opponent on any given night and will bring a wealth of experience to the ring to upset Amomba.

This bout will also mark the first time, Awuku is competing in a weight division over 147 pounds, having spent the bulk of his career in the lower weight divisions.

The event, promoted by SP Promotions, will feature Zimbabwean boxer Kudzanai Disney Huni against Kofi Manu, along with the return of former national and UBO super lightweight champion Robert Quaye, who will be stepping back into the ring for the first time in over two years.
