Black Bombers will engage other nationals in preparation for LA 2028 – Treasurer Mustapha Nettey

Treasurer of the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF) Mr. Mustapha Nettey believes the Black Bombers are on the road to recovery for qualification to the next Olympic Games in Los Angeles, USA.

Speaking to the media ahead of the arrival of the Metro Detroit Golden Gloves team that will face the Black Bombers on Saturday at the Bukom Boxing Arena, he assured that there would be series of engagements with boxers from different countries.

“This is to allow our boxers to study styles of other top class boxers, so we will engage Americans, Europeans, Asians and other Africans” he stated.

He said Ghana did well at Tokyo 2020 by claiming a bronze from Samuel Takyi but most boxers could not qualify for Paris 2024 and it really affected the team’s moral but with the return of some pros like Henry Malm and Joseph Commey, he believes the tide will change and at least three or four boxers can make it to LA 2028.

He hinted that the technical direction has been changed and coaches Akai Nettey and Charles Quartey are bringing new life into the team.

He noted that the visit of Metro Detroit Golden Gloves team is to boost tourism and business in Ghana with more education and different experience for both the teams.

He thanked the media for supporting the GBF at the welcome ceremony at the Accra International airport and other activities coming up.

The GBF will organise a press conference on Friday at the Dr. Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum, before the main ‘Fist of Fury’ Amateur show on Saturday at the Bukom Boxing Arena.
