Alfred Lamptey Faces Experienced Maxwell Awuku

There is an 18-year gap between Alfred Lamptey and Maxwell Awuku, two lightweights who willfight on Box Office Promotions’ Sunday event at the Laboma Beach Resort.

Maxwell Awuku, a 58-fight veteran, made his debut in 2002 when boxing was different than it is today .

Over the course of 24 years, Maxwell has secured 50 wins, 7 losses and 1 draw with 34 knockouts. During this period, he held the WBA Pan African Super featherweight title in 2006 and the WBO African Super featherweight title in 2011.

He has also fought for several regional titles, and even had a shot at a world title in 2018, but lost to Miguel Berchelt via a third-round TKO. Despite being 43 years and nearing the twilight of his career, the fight will not be an easy night for Alfred Lamptey.

Alfred Lamptey has had an impressive career so far. After dropping out of primary school, he found boxing as a way to stay out of trouble.

Alfred turned professional at just 17 years and in 16 fights, has held 3 titles namely; the national Super featherweight title, UBO African Featherweight title, WABU Featherweight title, as well as the WBC and WBA youth titles.

He was the recipient of the SWAG Boxer of the year award in 2021 as a testament to his talent.

Alfred will seek to add an experienced name like Maxwell to his resume and, in the process, acquire some vital experience for himself. He will be the favourite to win as he has the youth and speed advantages on his side.

Maxwell may not be as quick as he was when competing for world titles, but as we often see in boxing, experience is a crucial element you cannot ignore.
