I Am Confident In The GOC – Hon. Kofi Adams
The Minister for Sports & Recreation, Hon. Kofi Adams, has said he is confident in the leadership the of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) and thus will collaborate with the institution for the development of sports in Ghana. He made this statement when he visited the headquarters of the GOC at the Olympic House in Accra.
Hon. Kofi Adams praised the GOC’s efforts in promoting sports development in Ghana, citing their role in preparing athletes for international competitions. He emphasized the ministry’s commitment to supporting the GOC’s initiatives and working together to achieve excellence in sports.
He expressed satisfaction with the GOC’s progress, highlighting the need for continued support to Ghanaian athletes for excellence. The minister assured the GOC of the ministry’s readiness to provide necessary resources for sports development and support athletes who already are on the Olympic Scholarship.
“We are aware of your long standing recreational and training center project at Amasaman which is being encroached by squatters. I am happy to say that the Ministry of Sports and Recreation will work with the GOC on the OlympAfrica Project at Amasaman, to ensure it is completed for use” Minister Kofi Adams stated.
GOC President, Richard Akpokavie Esq., on behalf of the board briefed the minister on the programmes and achievements, development initiatives and athlete support programmes including preparations for the upcoming Commonwealth Games and the Youth Olympics.
President Akpokavie thanked the minister for his continued support and collaboration with the GOC and assured its commitment to working with the ministry to enhance sports development in Ghana.
The meeting covered key issues affecting sports in Ghana, including funding, infrastructure, and athlete support as the minister assured the GOC of the ministry’s efforts to address these challenges.
The visit concluded with a commitment to enhance collaboration between the ministry and the GOC. Both parties pledged to work together to drive Ghana’s sporting ambitions.
