TANZANIA’S HASSAN MWAKINYO TO FACE KUVESA KATEMBO ON APRIL 23

Tanzania’s boxing superstar Hassan ‘Champez’ Mwakinyo is set to battle for a non title fight with Congolese-South Africa based, Mardochee Kuvesa Katembo at Jamhuri Stadium in Dodoma, Tanzania on 23 April.

The fight billed as ‘The fight with Purpose’ is organized by the female boxing promoter Sophia Mwakagenda of Lady in Red Boxing Promotion, who is also the member of Parliament for special seats in Mbeya region.

It’s for the first time since September 2021, Mwakinyo (20-3-0, 14kOS) is fighting home as a result of his fourth round Technical Knockout win against Namibian former unified light welterweight world champion, Julius Indongo at Ubungo Plaza, Dar es Salaam.

Remember, he is confronting Katembo just six months away since his fourth round stoppage loss against Liam Smith who is the former WBO light middleweight world champion, September 2022.

Katembo (14-7-1, 0KOs) the 29-year-old, is making his second visit to Tanzania, after the majority decision loss to Tanzania’s Hamis Maya, July last year in which some fans felt Katembo should have won.

The Supportive bouts are; Laurent Segu (Tanzania) vs Ibrahim Najum (Tanzania), Feriche Mashauri (Tanzania) vs Chiedza Homakoma (Zimbabwe), Happy Daudi (Tanzania) vs Hawa Newton Stanford (Tanzania).

Also, Alibaba Tarimo (Tanzania) vs Kato Machemba (Tanzania), Jesca Mfinanga (Tanzania) vs Salma Ally (Tanzania) and Sarafina Julius (Tanzania) vs Halima Bandola (Tanzania).

The fight is aiming to collect funds for buying 40,000 sanitary pads for Girl Students in southern Highland regions, as it was done in 2018 when Tanzania’s Mada Maugo brutally smashed Malawian Charles Misanjo at PTA Hall, Dar es salaam.
