South Africa’s Matshidiso “The Tiger” Mokebisi (pictured right in a previous fight) was TKO’d in the 9th of a scheduled 10-round fight for WBC super-bantamweight silver belt by Mexico’s Mariana “La Barby” Juarez in Mexico city on Friday night, April 26.

My friend and staunch boxing fan, Ana Maribel, who watched the fight live on TV in Guadalajara, said the South African boxer looked intimidated and did not offer any serious challenge to the 44-year-old Mariana, now 56-13-4 with 20 KOs while Mokebisi has dropped to 18-12-2 with seven KOs.

“Matshidiso under-performed last night,” said MaribeI, adding:”I thought she would give Mariana difficult time but she looked scared. Mariana is known here for cherry-picking her opponents.”

Maribel sent me the fight footage which shows the South African boxer on her back foot for the better part of the fight, hardly shaking Mariana with any telling punch.

The Mexican dominated the show with jabs, and at times working on Matshidiso’s body before going upstairs.

The end came in the 9th round when Mariana, who says this is her last year in boxing, cornered the South Africa national super-bantamweight champion and bombarded her with a barrange of punches as Matshidiso buried her face under both gloves for safety.

To avoid any disaster, the referee wisely waved it off in favour of Mariana who’s now the new WBC super-bantamweight silver champion.
