Ghana’s Olympic bronze medallist Samuel Takyi stopped Morocco’s Berchami Mehdi, Algeria’s two-time Africa champion Jugurtha Ait Beka (pictured) outpointed Ethiopia’s Gebremariam Alem, South Africa’s John Paul Masamba KO’d Santiago Ondo of Equatorial Guinea as DR Congo’s big-punching Mulumba Mbaya KO’d Kenya’s Aloice Vincent Ochieng in what was a baptism of fire for the Kenyan rookie.

Those are the highlights involving the main contenders in the light-welterweight division round of 16 at the African Games boxing tournament in Accra on Sunday (March 17).

In other light-welterweight round of 16 results, Uganda’s Innocent Amoko stopped Jovanie Bouzin of Seychelles and Burkina Faso’s Napongo Mathias beat Malawi’s Elias Bonzo.
