3 horsemen of Ghana’s cruiser weight division
Knockouts are the primary language of the typical Ghanaian cruiserweight, and despite a lack of
depth in the division, Ghana’s fighters stand a good chance of excelling globally.
The reigning national champion, Ahmed Abdula, has 7 KOs in 9 fights. Jacob Dickson, a
seasoned competitor and former national champion, boasts 14 knockouts among his 15 victories.
Also, WABU champion Haruna Mohammed maintains a perfect knockout record, having won all
8 of his fights by knockout.
Each of the three boxers has held the national cruiserweight title, and a round-robin tournament
would be an effective way to determine the best
Abdula and Mohammed met in the ring in 2025, with the fight concluding in a unanimous
decision in favor of Abdula. A scheduled 2024 boxing match between Haruna and Dickson
ultimately fell through because of sanctioning issues.
This three-way tournament will be reminiscent of the “Four Kings”; Sugar Ray Leonard, Marvin
Hagler, Thomas Hearns, and Roberto Durán, who dominated the sport during the 1980s.
Their legendary clashes created unforgettable moments, which boosted boxing’s appeal.
The tournament presents Ahmed, Haruna, and Jacob with a chance to make history and put on a
spectacle for the Ghanaian audience, since they are in their prime years.
