Irate Boxing fans stormed the offices of the Ghana Boxing Authority to register their dismay and displeasure over the ban on promoter extraordinaire and President of the Boxing Promoters Association, Alex Ntiamoah Boakye.

In a two-page Press release signed by the President of the Boxing governing body of Ghana, Abraham Kotei Neequaye, Alex Ntiamoah-Boakye is being suspended for organising a boxing event on May 28, 2023 at an unapproved location (Seconds Out Boxing Gym) which rests under the jurisdiction of the Ga State and the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) which was banned from drumming and noise making during the period.

The letter invoked Article 21 Clause (b) of the Rules and Regulations governing
professional boxing in Ghana, which states:
All licensees are required to adhere strictly to the provisions enshrined in this ethical
code of conduct and the rules and regulations that follow the breach of which shall attract any of the following sanctions according to the severity of the offense, hence the two year ban.

However, many boxing stakeholders and observers sharply disagree with the decision, citing hatred and gross abuse of power.

The protesters were met by the GBA President, who reiterated that it was a board decision. Hence, he was going to escalate their concerns.

But some members of the GBA Executive and, by extension, the Board, including Carl Lokko have categorically stated the contrary, indicating no knowledge of the said decision.

It remains to be seen how this debacle is going to pun out, but Boxing Ghana will update readers on any latest development when it becomes necessary, including an editorial.
