IMC of Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) organizes second registration and medical screening of professional boxers in Accra

On Friday 29th May 2026, about 150 professional boxers gathered and were registered at the Jamestown Police Station and taken to the La-Paz Community Hospital, Accra for their medical screening.  

The programmed which was organized by: Ghana Boxing Interim Management Committee (GBIMC)  was sponsored by Ivan Bruce Cudjoe, an aspirant for the Ghana Boxing Presidency.

Overview

The Ghana Boxing Interim Management Committee (GBIMC), under its extended mandate and in partnership with the Ministry of Sports and Recreation (MoSR), the National Sports Authority (NSA), and a secured sponsor, successfully conducted Part II of the Mandatory Health Screening Exercise for licensed professional boxers in Ghana. 

This initiative follows the first phase held in November 2025 and forms part of the broader reforms to safeguard athlete health, safety, and professionalism. 

Key Highlights of Screening Exercise 

Participation: 150 boxers were scheduled for mandatory medical tests. 

Processing Point: Boxers converged at the Jamestown Police Station for registration, formalities, and refreshments. 

Transportation: Athletes were conveyed comfortably to La-Paz Community Hospital for the screening by Ayalolo Buses. 

Medical Tests: All examinations were fully sponsored, covering the mandatory protocols prescribed by the Sub-Committee on Medical, Safety, and Anti-Doping. 

Follow-Up: Boxers duly registered but unable to attend today’s exercise may report directly to La-Paz Community Hospital at their convenience, as their bio-data has already been captured. Digital Database: 

The GBIMC has developed a secure digital medical records database. This system is undergoing deployment and testing, and will be formally handed over to the incoming Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) Executive Board. 

Strategic Importance 

This exercise underscores GBIMC’s commitment to: Ensuring athlete safety and longevity through standardized medical protocols. 

Mr. Gideon Oyiadzo, Coordinator of the Ghana Boxing Interim Management Committee (GBIMC) said they are establishing a comprehensive digital health database for all licensed boxers. 

“Our aim is to promote professionalism and transparency in Ghanaian boxing administration” he said.
