Ghana’s Alfred ‘Showtime’ Lamptey appeared in the WBC World Super-lightweight rankings for the first time in the sanctioning bodies’ October rankings.
Lamptey’s first-ever ranked appearance, however, came in the lightweight division rankings in September where he entered at number 39.
Having chosen to move up one weight division, Lamptey has now secured the number 40 position.
He now becomes one of three Ghanaian boxers, alongside Theophilus Allotey and Michael Abban, to appear in the world boxing rankings as of October.
Lamptey has long been considered one of the country’s best talents. He debuted as a pro at the age of 17 years without going through the amateur circuit like most boxers his age.
And despite that bold step, he currently has a record of 17 wins and 1 loss.
His breakout year came in 2021, where he won four titles in two weight classes.
He defeated George Krampah to become WABU and UBO Africa featherweight champion.
Within 9 months, he added the national super featherweight title and the WBC Youth and WBO Youth titles to his resume.
His sole loss till date came at the hands of French boxer Jaouad Belmehdi via split decision in 2024.
Since that loss, Lamptey has been on a four fight win streak, fighting in both lightweight and super lightweight divisions.
Fellow compatriots, Theophilus Allotey and Michael Abban have also seen an elevation from their previous standings.
Michael ‘Black Spider’ Abban moved from 25 to 24 in the WBC super flyweight rankings and entered at number 15 in the WBA after previously being unranked.
Abban still maintains his number 15 position in the WBO rankings.
Allotey now holds the enviable title of being the only Ghanaian boxer currently ranked by all four major boxing sanctioning bodies, plus the prestigious Ring Magazine.
Theophilus ‘Lopez’ Allotey is ranked seventh, ninth and fifteenth in the WBA, Ring and WBC super flyweight rankings respectively.
He also holds the eleventh position in the WBO and IBF divisional rankings.
