Veteran Nigerian boxer Ike Ibeabuchiwants to fight Usyk

52-year-old Ike Ibeabuchi has set a lofty goal to fight two-time undisputed heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk in the future.

Ibeabuchi (21-0, 16 KOs) returned to the ring this year, having been away for 25 years. Between 1994 and 1999, Ike was an active boxer. He notably won the WBC International Heavyweight title in 1997, following his victory over David Tua.

According to Ike, he’s coming back to boxing after all this time because he wants to win the heavyweight world title.

He has already secured a victory in this year, defeating 40-year-old Idris Afinni in his hometown of Nigeria.

Ike has faced his own share of controversies in the past that have kept him out of the ring. In 1999, Ibeabuchi received a twenty-year sentence in the US after being charged with attempted sexual assault.

He is now set to fight 45-year-old veteran Kabiru Towolawi(26-16) in a 12-round main event at Teslim Balogun Stadium on December 24.

Even though the odds are heavily against Ike’s chances of getting a world title shot, his ambition and drive to achieve such a goal is definitely worth admiring.
