TEAM NIGERIA (BOXING) are set to depart the country for Angola to participate in the 4th Africa Youth Games.

Nigeria will be represented by three boxers at the multi-sport event, which will feature athletes between the ages of 14 and 17 from 54 African nations.
The Games aim to promote sports, discover and develop young talent for competitions such as the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games (for which they serve as qualifiers), and foster integration and cultural exchange among African countries.

The team is led by the National Boxing Head Coach, Anthony Konyegwachi.

Boxing action kicks off on Monday, December 15th, 2025, at the multi-sport event scheduled for December 10th–20th, 2025.

List of Boxers:
MALE:
1. Abijuwon Faruk – 50kg
2. Solomon Joshua – 70kg
FEMALE:
3. Mayowa Ayomide – 48kg.

During a chat with the National Head Coach, we asked how prepared the team is, and he confirmed that the boxers are well nurtured and ready. Although they spent less than three weeks in camp, he believes they will return home with gold medals:

“My boxers are ready and well groomed. I prepared them thoroughly within the camping period, and they have been very impressive. I believe, by God’s grace, we will bring back gold medals. They are fantastic boxers. Everything is in God’s hands. I drilled them very well, morning and evening, except on Sundays. They are truly ready.”

When we asked for his message to Nigerians wishing the team success, he said:
“I also want Nigerians to wish us success ahead of the event.”

Good luck to Team Nigeria! 🇳🇬🥊
