
MOZAMBIQUE TO HOST ZONE 4 BOXING CHAMPIONSHIPS
โช๏ธ They’ve stepped in for Comoros who were the earlier hosts
Mozambique has stepped in for Comoros to host the Zone 4 Championships in Maputo from December 13-18 this year.
The Zone 4 Secretary-General Taolo Tlouetsile (pictured) said the decision was reached at during an online meeting on Monday (September 9) attended by 11 of the 14 member countries of the zone. Absent members were Comoros, Seychelles and Zimbabwe.
“Comoros was supposed to host our championships but pulled out due to circumstances beyond their control, that’s why we settled for Mozambique,” said Tlouetsile.
Africa Boxing Confederation (AFBC) acting Secretary-General Yohanes Birhane also attended the meeting on behalf of AFBC President Eyassu Berhanu. The meeting was chaired by Tlouetsile in the absence of Zone 4 President Gabriel Jr who is also the head of Mozambique federation.
“During the December tournament we will also have a 1-Star R&J course sponsored by AFBC in Maputo,” said Tlouetsile.
Mozambique hosted the last Zone 4 Championships in 2022 in Maputo and emerged the overall winners with seven gold, five silver and four bronze medals followed by South Africa 5-5-7, Zambia 5-3-3, Botswana 1-3-3, Seychelles 1-0-1, Eswatini 0-4-2 and wooden spoonists Malawi 0-0-2.
