Isaac Commey calls for fair officiating in Ghana Boxing
Welterweight boxer Isaac Commey and his management have called on the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) to give fair verdicts and decisions to encourage good boxers.
Commey who fought Isaac Aryee on May 10th said for the second time he has been robbed of the opportunity to celebrate his toils in training and performances.
Speaking to Yours Truly in an exclusive interview he cited his marvelous performance against Isaac Aryee at the Bukom Boxing Arena on the Box Office Promotions Bill which the referee Richard Amevi topped the fight following his piercing punches on his opponent in round three.
“As I was about to celebrate, it was announced that the GBA will decide later on who won, I was really shocked and amazed, such occurrences can discourage boxers but it will rather make me stronger and I will come back again because I must win a title for Ghana, that is my target and ambition in life” he expressed.
Also known as King of the Jungle, he revealed his affection for fighting and often engaged in other combat sports like K1, Jujitsu, Judo, Kick boxing, Muay Thai, MMA and Wrestling.
The warrior from Shiabu near Chorkor noted that boxing or sports is guided by rules and regulations so it must be applied.
The Teacher who loves reading and all kinds of food but his favourite is beans aka ‘Gorgbe’.
His idol boxers are Mike Tyson, Azumah Nelson, Floyd Mayweather and Terance Crawford.
Commey was sanctioned after head butting Sampson Segbedzi on November 24, 2924 for the National and UBO Welterweight Championship where he claimed his glove and hand were bitten by Segbedzi.
However he has served his punishment, but wants a total overhauling of the boxing leadership to ensure fairness and make the sport attractive.
His trainer Coach George Abbey was also sad about the GBA stance and he sided with his boxer. He noted that the GBA President loves creating confusion while interfering in referees’ jobs.
Mr. Evans Bernie Johnson, manager of Isaac Commey said the interference by the President of the GBA, Mr. Abraham Kotei Neequaye during boxing bouts creates other problems and so he should stay back and monitor to ensure that Ghana Boxing is organising well with fair and accurate judgment by the officials.
“Boxing is about lose, draw or win and if we are treated badly when he have won clearly its not fair, because Commey threw more than ten unanswered punches to the head of Aryee and the referee came in so who was winning” he quizzed.
Commey has a record of ten fights with two defeats, but he has assured his supporters of no more lose but only sweet victories.
“I have learnt a lot to be much disciplined when I am boxing so I deserve fair treatment” he added.
